West African Poultry Farmers Association.
West African poultry farmers see their economic future as being under threat through the reduction of import duties, customs and tariffs and what they perceive as dumping of frozen chicken parts from international sources and the European Union in particular. In the run up to the WTO-ministerial meeting in Hong Kong, and with a view on the soon to be concluded negotiations on the establishment of Economic Partnership Agreements between ECOWAS-countries and the European Union within the framework of the Cotonou Agreement, a first time ever meeting of West African Poultry Farmer Associations was hosted in Accra from November 21 st - 23 rd, 2005. Despite some differences in their particular economic interests, participants managed to agree on a number of issues, concerns and demands to be tabled before the concerned authorities and negotiators. |
